ABOUT

I started with mixed media in 2010, teaching myself techniques in layering and incorporating dried flowers and insects.  After a year, I closed down my studio to focus on graduate school and a career.

My first yarn wreath was created for teacher gifts when I was a 3rd grade aide. The next year, I made my own felt flowers for Christmas wreaths for myself and friends. From that, I created elaborate floral wreathes to announce on my front door that the baby had arrived and made baby mobiles for both my children.

When I reopened ein windigbaum studio in 2021, I was struggling with a new direction with my mixed media work.  I reflected on the past few years, and recalled how much fun I had making the felt flower wreathes.  I started making felt flowers again and I new that was the right direction.

Currently, I am expanding my fiber art knowledge.  My grandma taught me to embroider when I was a child and my Great Aunt Molly taught me to crochet a single chain. I am expanding on these lessons to learn more and also self-teaching myself needle felting, wreathing, macramé,  punch needle embroidery, and book binding.

Combining all of these techniques, along with beading, wire wrapping and mixed media, my art has evolved into mixed fiber folk art.

ein windigbaum means "a windy tree" in German.  I named my studio this to reflect my Volga German heritage and my connection with nature. ein windigbaum studio is now only 1,5 years old.  This webpage portfolio will grow and expand with age.
